I’m Too Private For Social Media

Real Estate Agent Training Tips
Unless you are in the witness protection program, you need to be doing some type of social networking.

Get Over It

I have heard excuse after excuse from real estate agents who say they don’t want the whole world knowing what they are doing.  Who cares if I’m cooking dinner or out with friends?  If you hear yourself saying these words or anything similar, I have three words for you…GET OVER IT!

How We Do Business Has Changed

Remember life before faxes? Remember when you used to receive a fax and the paper was all rolled up?  Now we have electronic signatures, email and little need for faxes. How about computers?  In college I remember having to schedule time in the computer lab and type out those dreadful cards…heaven forbid you made an error on one of them.  Now you can take the computer wherever you go…even in your pocket.  And how about telephones?  The land line that was attached to the wall…the car phone that  was bigger than a shoe box?  Cell phones can now do everything…take pictures, record a video, pull up listings and guide us to the nearest coffee shop.

There Will Be No Turning Back

Social media is no different.  It started with MySpace and has progressed to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest…just to name a few.  There’s no turning back.  We won’t be going back to computers the size of your refrigerator.  Our lives will forever contain some form of social media, so you may as well embrace it now.

Social Media Is An Incredible Marketing Tool

Social media is an incredible marketing tool and the price is right.  It’s a great way to keep you name “top of mind” with your sphere of influence.  I understand real estate agents wanting to be private, but if you are breathing (or not), you can be found on the Internet with very little effort.  So start slowly…post a few things about some cool houses you saw as you were touring or previewing properties.  Take a few pictures of things around your city and ask people to guess where the picture was taken.  There are any number of things you can do if you stop making excuses as to why you can’t do it.
